Martha Reeves, an American R & B and Pop legend, visited RGG on November 6. The students were all lined up along the main hallway, giving her the red carpet treatment. She walked the entire way, high fiving and fist pumping students and staff.
Ms. Reeves met with the 4th and 5th graders. She told great stories of Stevie Wonder, Barry Gordy, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and how she much she loved Marvin Gaye. She taught the students dance moves as a group, then as each student left she put her arm around them and danced with them before they exited the library.
All the students performed for her in the cafeteria and then she sang for the school. First, she sang “The Star Spangled Banner” and asked everybody to join along. Next, she asked everybody to stand and dance while she sang "Heat Wave" and "Jimmy Mack". She had all the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders make a huge dance line behind her while she sang "Dancing in the Streets" and strolled around the gymnasium. The concert closed by presenting Ms. Reeves with a flower bouquet made by the lower elementary students. Ms. Reeves posed for pictures and signed autographs for students, parents and staff members.
