Avondale Youth Assistance (AYA) has maintained a long-standing partnership with the Avondale School District offering counseling and prevention services to Avondale students and their families in pursuit of its mission to prevent juvenile delinquency. The Avondale School Board passed a resolution allowing the AYA offices to relocate to the Avondale Academy building providing a private entrance, increased confidentiality and more space to expand its programs for the Avondale community. AYA sponsors summer and after-school programs to help students succeed academically. Volunteers in STARS (Students Tutorial and Recreational Sessions) work with trained coordinators to provide nearly one-on-one academic assistance. AYA's annual Youth Recognition Ceremony recognizes Avondale students for the good things they are doing in the community. If you know a young person who deserves to be recognized, nomination forms are available on the district's web site. AYA also matches youngsters with adult mentors who are trained through Oakland County Youth Assistance.

The AYA office has free drug-testing kits available offering a simple way to detect a potential drug problem with anonymity and instant results before it becomes a police matter. Giving kids an "out" when faced with drug and/or alcohol use reduces peer pressure. ("I can't, because I might get tested.")

If you would like more information about Avondale Youth Assistance, its programs and services, stop by the office at 1435 W. Auburn Road (parking and entrance in the rear of the building).  You may also contact us at 248-852-3716 or email avondaleyouth@gmail.com.
